The other is arguably NASCAR's class clown. NASCAR stars Jimmy Spencer and Kenny Wallace will be entering the Pro All-Star Stock (PASS) Series race Wednesday at Thompson, challenging the field of regulars in the 75-lap feature. "These drivers want to race," Thompson owner Don Hoenig said.

"They both feel that race fans love to watch Nextel Cup drivers take on the local stars in a hotly contested short track race." Spencer is no stranger to the oval, having raced there many times in the old NASCAR Winston Modified Series during the 1980s. Wallace, younger brother of the legendary Rusty Wallace, is making his first Thompson appearance. Joining the racing duo will be John Roberts, their co-host on Speed Channel's "NASCAR This Morning" and "NASCAR Victory Lane." Roberts will introduce Spencer and Wallace to the crowd. Spencer has a reputation for speaking his mind frankly, which tends to get under his competitors' skin. In recent years, he's best known for his war of words with Kurt Busch.

Wallace, meanwhile, is one of the funniest and most sponsorfriendly drivers on any NASCAR circuit. CLASH TIME: Stafford Motor Speedway certainly won't let itself be outdone by Thompson's show of NASCAR star power. Coming off a successful debut last year, the track is presenting its third annual Carquest Extreme Tuesday on July 11. The highlight will be a 15-lap match race with the Premier Racing Association's Big Car Series cars as the vehicles of choice. The list of competitors is a who's who of racing: two-time Indy 500 winner Al Unser Auto racing NASCAR Auto icon Wallace, racing mer Racing JASON League REMILLARD Sarah USAC Crown star Steele dirt-racing legend my Swindell.

Swindell finished ond to JASON REMILLARD Cupper Ken Schrader in year's match race in Crown cars. The race also tured modified legend Warren and Nextel Cup Carl Edwards and Dave ney. EARNING A 100: Last year's winner of the ASB Late Model 100 indirectly helped Ryan Posocco win this year's event at Stafford. Scott Foster who won the 100-lapper last July, was leading on lap 88 when his car's transmission broke. Posocco, the three-time defending Late Model points champion, assumed the lead and held off Monson's Jim Peterson for his first victory of 2006.

DADDY'S GIRL: South Hadley's Lori-Jo Rzeszutek, daughter of Late Model veteran Joe Rzeszutek, picked up her first career DARE Stock victory at Stafford last Friday. "Wow! I'm just so happy to be here," said an excited Rzeszutek. "It's special to be in victory lane where my dad has been." MORE 100'S: NASCAR's top two regional series the Busch East Series and Whelen Modified Tour held 100-lap races last week at Thompson. Matt Kobyluck of Uncasville, won his first Busch East event of the season and now has at least one win at each Connecticut track the series has been -Stafford, Thompson, Waterford and Lime Rock. Another Connecticut native, Todd Szegedy of Ridgefield, was victorious in the Whelen Modified New England Dodge Dealers 100.

It was Szegedy's first Tour win in nearly two years. SIBLING RIVALRY: John Blewett III took the checkered flag ahead of his brother, Jimmy, to win Tuesday's Whelen Modified Tour Connecticut Classic 150 at Stafford. WHIP WINNERS: Kyle Spencer has made quite a name for him- self over the last three seasons at Westfield's Whip City Speedway. The teenager has also earned a nickname from the, Whip City faithful the Montgomery Missile. Spencer lived up to his moniker by winning his second 750cc feature of the season last Saturday.

Westfield's Mark Dupuis finished second, while. Granby teen Heather DesRochers was fourth. Westfield's Josh Walts won his first career 1200cc feature, taking the lead after his father, Jack, was caught up in a crash, on the seventh lap. LOCALS DOMINATE: Several lo4 cal drivers drove to Victory, Lane last Saturday at Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, N.H. Darren Jacobs of Spring, field led the way with his first career Mini-Stock win.

Jason Remillard can be reached at Henry motivated for final. Associated Press FRANKFURT, Germany World Cup final frustration has been building in Thierry Henry for eight years. The France striker hopes to take it all out on Italy. Henry was not yet one of the world's most feared scorers when, in the 1998 World Cup final against Brazil, France coach Aime Jacquet told him to prepare to play. Then France defender Marcel Desailly was ejected.

"The coach changed his mind," Henry recalled. Having to protect a 2-0 lead with 10 men, Jacquet decided to send on midfielder Patrick Vieira instead. The plan worked, and the host country hung on to win 3-0. When France returned as defending champion in 2002, it was a shadow of its former self and went out in the first round without scoring. This time, Henry never got close to playing in the final.

France began this World Cup with uninspired draws against Switzerland and South Korea, feeding fears that Les Bleus would again go out in the first round especially with playmaker Zinedine Zidane suspended for the final group game against Togo. But a 2-0 victory over the Africans meant a place in the second round and put the fizz back into the French. They followed an emphatic 3-1 victory over Spain by beating defending champion Brazil 1-0. They completed the turnaround when Zidane scored a 1 penalty awarded for foul on Henry to beat Portugal 1-0 in Wednesday's semifinal. 1 Now Henry faces a miserly Italian defense that has cont ceded one score in six games and that an own-goal by defender Cristian Zaccardo in a' 1-1 first-round draw with the United States.

3 "Italy is a team which waits and waits," Henry said Wednesday. "They send you to sleep and then they score goals in the last two minutes." But what more motivation does Henry need? Those who watch him regu-3 larly for Arsenal and France: know his strengths. Henry at his best glides past defenders with his speed and expert ball control, swapping first-time: passes with teammates as; though they are reading each. other's thoughts. 1 Lady Pioneers chase playoff spot By JEFF THOMAS The United Soccer Leagues W-League homestretch is here and the Western Mass.

Lady Pioneers have placed themselves in a strong position for postsea-. son play. Western Mass. enters tonight's match with the Northern Virginia Majestics (3-5) with a 7-2 record, good enough for second place in the Northeast Division 'of the Eastern Conference. "Two wins gets us in, and that's the most important thing," said Lady Pioneers coach John Natale.

"We want to get a home bid too, but we've put ourselves in a pretty good position for that." New Jersey (9-0) leads the Northeast Division with 27 points, followed by the Lady Pioneers with 21. Two wins in their last five games would give them 27 points, with only New Jersey and Boston in the division capable of more. The Majestics would need to win their remaining six games to attain 27 points. "Right now it's a matter of us; managing the team, making sure we're healthy and making sure we have everyone there at the end of the year," Natale said. "The game against South Jer-! sey we played without five reg-: ular starters and we scored five: goals, so that's definitely a positive thing," said Natale, refer-: ring to last week's 5-2 win over the Banshees. "Kylie one of our youth players, played the full 90 minutes and: defended well for 90 minutes. Alyssa (Naeher, starting goalie) wasn't there so Laura Harvey: went 90 minutes as well." The absence, of Radchuck and D'Agostino will likely! mean starting roles for Jen Sul-4 livan in the middle and Ashley: O'Brien on the wing, or perhaps Theresa Sherry and Katie Gar-) diner.

The Lady Pioneers have oth-3 er players to come off the bench who could earn valuable experience over the next five games. If they finish in the top two in. the division in the process, so much the better. 4: 2 World Cup Lady Pioneers Fast Facts OPPONENT Northern.
