In the shadow of the valley
I would like to settle down
Wide open space
Wind on my face
A distant horizon
The moon on the crest
In the shadow of the valley
That I love best
You have always waited for me
And you always will be there
Sage brush and pine
Old friends of mine
A little bit further
I will find my rest
In the shadow of the valley
That I love best
I have wandered many places
But they're all the same to me
Nowhere I've found
To settle down
A little bit further
I'll find my rest
In the shadow of the valley
That I love best
In the shadow of the valley
That I love best.

I remember a distinct moment in playing NW once where i started to enjoy this song more

I was just doing what i always did looking at the compass and finding undiscovered locations and Explore them while still eating and drinking water and sleeping as i was playing hardcore mode

Anyhow this song had played for a few seconds and i stumbled upon the shack that is used in veronica's companion quest with that terminal on the floor (i can't recall the name but i think you know which one i mean)

When i entered the song played the first line "in the shadow of the valley/ i would like to settle down"

In the game i had just entered the shack when that line played and it made me feel a bit sad i guess

It was the ruined state and the rusty tin cans all around an a still working terminal and yet no signs of life but at the time i imagined a struggle had happened or something

And yet as sentimental as i was i started to think about if anyone lived there or had once

Yeah it sounds silly but back then i was depressed as f*ck and around 16/17 so that game was my escape from reality as i was very isolated so i got a bit emotional at times playing it too

Just met the singer of this song in a diner in Berkeley. Old man is dealing with a kidney tumor. Let's pray for him. He told me about this song. He didn't write it, his bass player wrote the instrumental and a lady from LA (friend of his) wrote the lyrics. He originally thought "wish upon a star" sort of lyrics were best for the tune, but she came up with the "Shadow of the Valley." It originally had 2 versus and when he went to record it he felt it needed a 3rd. He called her up and she gave him the 3rd versus on the phone "I have wondered many places..." His band was big in the bay area in the 80s and 90s, but all his songs are owned by a company in Germany.

@ferdinandbardamu.

Damn boy, this is sad

It passed 7 or 8 years when i first heard this song...that hot summer evening i was playing FALLOUT NEW VEGAS and smoking some A grade weed when the song started to play..i think i was somewhere near ivanpah dry lake...the song immediately found a spot in my brain,my eyes started to burst in tears but at a same time there was a big smile on my face. And here i am now in 2019 sitting in front of my monitor smoking B grade weed with the same tears and the same smile. i played the song more than 10000 times and still gives the chills.the best song i ever heard!!Please if you ever see the man tell him thet he ia a LEGEND and wish all the BEST!!!Greetings from Croatia

Mcarran to Nellis is nothing compared to good springs to prim to Mohave outpost to nipton to Novac to Boulder City to freeside to the north gate then finding out you don't have 2000 caps
